NOTE THAT THIS THREAD WAS STARTED IN 2015, RESURRECTED in 2020 AND AGAIN IN FEBRUARY 2026 . There's been a lot of chat lately about the way values of 996 Turbos have gone in the last 2 years , i.e to the point that a very ordinary car would now cost over £30k. With more and more cars now being advertised at £40k+ I'm just curious as to who would actually buy one at that sort of money. :?:

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I would be surprised if a private sale would net anything near that figure. I think the prices asked by the dealers includes a massive contingency for prep and repairs and most people play safe and pay in my view an unnecessary premium.
There is still very little that could match it in terms of prestige, performance, heritage and desirability for £30-40k. There's even less if you consider a car with a map and an exhaust. They are also a lot more car than a 964RS... :?:
Your title is very leading.. Clearly indicating you think they are not "worth" that. Is that because they have been in the 20's?? So your perception is they have risen too much? It's a Porche 911 turbo. It goes like a Porsche 911 turbo. It looks like etc etc So yes people will pay that. I don't "get" £100k for a 993 turbo but understand why people will pay it.
On the three main car forums I am active on the talk is more and more about prices and how quickly they are going up. I am selling my NSX for £65k and today a 15k miles one has been advertised for £105k. There is an E46 M3 CSL for sale for £70k and non below about £35k. There was an article by Sotheby's this week listing the top 7 cars to invest in, the 996 turbo was on the list..... MC
No. I paid less. But if someone offers me it tomorrow I'd be in a quandary. I've asked a question about all Porsche's on another thread. The view on that thread (echoing MC's above) are that all 'classics' are going up. Also the view is that it could either be a correction (a 996 turbo is ridiculously cheap all things considered) or an asset bubble. One thing know from history is when an asset bubble event is happening lots of people stand around saying 'Is this a bubble?' :?:
Apparently blue ones are still going down
I wonder if the question 2 years ago had been Would you pay over 40K for a GT2? What would the answer have been?
That's okay then. Mine's grey / blue most of the time
Well you obviously wouldn't, but whether you agree or not is entirely irrelevant isn't it? Cars ARE selling for over 40k and prices are continuing to rise, that answers your question. [/THREAD CLOSED]
How rude . I asked a simple question. It's a fact that cars are fetching over £40k. I simply asked who would pay that for one. So far, none of the respondees have said that they would.
I did Three years ago...
no way i would pay 40k, this is 997tt territory.
But they will be going down for a long time whereas 996T is going up same as 996 GT2 has gone up maybe 100K in 2 years.
Like most questions of this type... It depends! If someone were to offer me a low mileage, 2005, genuine 996 Turbo S, manual, with history etc etc for £40K, then I would bite their arm off....
