Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Does anyone know where the spare tire and subwoofer will be located? Will the spare be located in the same place as the 911 and Boxter? I am just a little parinoid. When I ordered my Cayenne S two years ago, if you ordered the upgrade Bose system it came with a large circular subwoofer that occupied the location of the donut spare. Therefore if you wanted a spare you had to order the exterior carrier covering the back hatch. Without that--no spare. There is an inflation kit for a flat, but nothing for a blowout which I had on the Indiana toll road a month ago. It took me 8 hours to be towed to the closest Porsche dealer, have them locate a tire and get me on my way. I hope Porsche will not take that approach with the Cayman. Someone please make me feel better.

POST 2Original post

Honestly, I doubt it will come with a spare... Porsche started giving fix a flat instead..... I'm serious- Maybe thats just on Turbos and C4's because of the tranny in front. Do 987's have spares?

POST 3Original post

987's do not have spares, I doubt the Cayman will either. Not sure on the sub location if it is the same as the 987 or not.

POST 4Original post

Thanks guys. Just as I suspected. Fix a flat is just that. Good for a nail puncture, etc, but obviously worthless for a blowout. Does this make sense to any of you experts on this board? Because to this amateur who just happens to like Porsche's, it makes no sense at all. Is it a weight issue or a space issue?

POST 5Original post

Both a weight and a space issue and since you get free roadside assistance the thought is that if you have a blow out you'll call the free roadside assistance and someone will come fix your tire or tow your car in to have it fixed.

POST 6Original post

K-Man-S you are exactly right. I did not want to go in to my story, but I did call roadside assistance and an hour and a half later the flat bed truck arrived. It took 45 minutes to load and secure the truck, another hour and a half to the dealership (my daughter and I were riding in the tow truck), and the dealership said it couldn't get a tire until the next day. By the way the dealership was in the opposite direction of where I was going when I had the blowout. Roadside assistance does not send a knowledgeable Porsche service mechanic, they send the closest tow service whose job is to tow you to a Porsche dealer. Porsche dealers for the most part do not stock tires. Fortunately I did not damage the wheel. So no spare can be significant for a tire that cannot be repaired.Porsche's performance characteristics sometime get in the way of practicality. No matter, I will still be driving a Cayman.
