Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2004 996 turbo convertible. When driving with the hood closed there is some squeak/rattle from the top of the windshield. I wonder if anyone else has this problem or has a solution? Apart from this niggle [ ]. JDME

POST 2Original post

Hi there, Had mine just over a year, and with a car of it's age, and the fact we have rubbers all around us essentially, that will rub with some flex and age, you will hear more noise in a 'vert. Previous non Porsche convertibles have all had some kind of noise, which I think you're experiencing Without knowing what noise it actually is, it could just be the nuance of having a topless model, or, your rubbers might need some reconditioning. @GeoffB, put me onto this, (rubber seal lubricant is Krytox. VW part number G052172A1) although as yet, I have yet to find the time or weather to apply it to all of my rubber seals. It may, or may not help stop or quieten what you have, but, I'll be taking his advice and treating my rubber around the window seals and hood joins with it. It isn't cheap for the small volume it is, but he swears by it. HTH Mark

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, as you say it's not cheap but have ordered some and will let you know if it does the trick.

POST 4Original post

Not sure if it's still available but you could buy wipes of Krytox from VW. It was a normal application on the EOS seals to keep them watertight. Occasionally you see it on eBay advertised as MG seal lubricant. It is expensive but you only need a little to keep the seals supple

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the advice, have purchased the expensive liquid and will report back. David
