Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The schematic shows that the switch on the tiptronic should be on the passenger side towards the rear of the car. I am wondering if that is just on the 2 wheel drive version. I am trying to find the switch to check it out since my back up lights don't work. When I crawled under the car the wire for the switch runs along the tranny pan (on the edge towards the rear of the car) along the side on the drivers side towards the front of the car and then goes up towards the top of the tranny. Is it higher up on the tranny on the 4 wheel drive version. If so how do you get to it to replace???

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

A lead I got from another forum indicated that in 2002 the tiptronic was switched to a MB unit not the ZF unit and that there is not multifunction switch on the tranny itself. The other site said the switch is part of the selector lever bracket. Does this make sense?
