Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

was just wondering if anyone has ever removed their sunroof and frame. workshop manual is fairly straighforward on the subject but im wondering whether i can skip the removal of the sliding portion from the top of the car and the removal of the motor as individual stages if im going to be unbolting the whole lot. can i just leave these in, remove the headlining and then when i unbolt the frame the whole lot will just come out together into the cabin of the car or does one have to take these two pieces out first before then proceeding with the frame removal?

I recently had the sunroof panel and head liner out on my car and it's like anything. Once you've done it, it's way easier the 2nd time. I had to re-adjust the sunroof and so I ended up having it all apart again in under 5 min. The Head liner and sunroof removal are a relatively minor removal... But thinking back on it even the side panels and roof liner were as well. The car seemed very Mechano like in a good way. Bolt on, Bolt off. You sound a little like me though, if a shortcut is there I'll give it a try... I can't think of any problems. Maybe the extra weight and increase chance of scratching the panel? Why do you want the whole sunroof assembly out anyway? Keep us posted

thanks, i know looking at the manual, the process of removing the sliding metal portion is pretty simple as is the interior sliding trim however i dont see the point of faffing about removing these when if i had just unbolted the whole mechanism then i could have short cut these steps. the headlining removal section does say to undo the sliding room and trim before pulling the headlining though so i will just do this and then take out the frame after. im fitting a carbon roof skin hence the reason it all needs to come out.
