Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found a quick and dirty (and cheap) way to implement DRLs on my 99 Carrera. I noticed that forward fog lamps were implemented by pulling the light switch out one notch. Normally, you would do this with the headlamp switch in the the headlamp on position. In my case, the switch can be pulled out in the off position, although it springs right back again. I bought a 1-7/8" O-ring at my hardware store and slipped it under the switch to keep it in the pulled-out position at all times. The effect is to implement DRLs - the forward fog lamps turn on with the ignition switch and stay on all the time, and they don't blind approaching drivers at night. Not sure how many models this will work with. I checked a friend's 2005 Carrera and the switch can't be pulled out in the off position.

Interesting approach thanks for sharing . Does the addition of the o-ring add a lot of resistance to turning on the headlights ? Or does the switch still turn easily ? I have a 99 C4 996 and a 02 Boxster S and I will see how this works on those . A lot of guys have gone through the pain of rewiring to achieve DRL's . Your KISS solution is brilliant 👍
