No smart alec replies please! I have asked my supplier for the engine number and he cannot find it, I have referred him to the supporting paperwork, but if it is not there where exactly will we find it on the vehicle? D

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Not sure about where on the vehicle, but in the Guarantee and Maintenance booklet (the service one with the stamps) it is stated on the label stuck in to the front (Chassis & Engine number, paint code, options). This is the duplicate of the one under the front boot (if it's still there).
Following info courtesy of Rennlist: If you look at the S/N on the bottom left side of the case next to the sump you will see a number like: M9603AT665XXXXX Which is a M960 engine (M960 3) that is a rebuild unit (AT) 6 cyl (6) , version (6), manufactured year (5), and the rest is the actual S/N
I've been told that it is 66402665 which for a 996 first registered in 09/2003 does not seem to make sense according to what Rennlist say (which I am not disputing as I know no different), oh well.
This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
