I received an email from Techart today w/ their new parts and pricing for the Cayman . They show a 310hp upgrade, 340hp w/ 3.6 liter, 370 w/ 3.8 liter. They are to get backto mew/ pricing. Has anyone received definate pricing on a Ruf supercharger system w/ installation? Looking for opinions on which direction to go - larger displacement vs. supercharging.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I f you value the current engine don't add a supercharger or a turbo. If you look at the specs of a factory turbo they lower the compression in order to survive the added pressur in the cylinders. Over time you will end up needing a new engine. If you truly need more power do an engine swap, if it is possible although you can forget warrenty.
jpcayman, Let me know what Techart says and also if they want to be sponsors here or offer us a group discount, etc.
I agree about the supercharger or turbo. I had the one of the first Turbo kits on a 90 Mustang when I was 16, and went on to put them on almost all of my sports cars I have had since. I love turbo's and superchargers, but you really need to understand the dynamics of the systems. Growing up in a speed shop I knew quite a bit about engines, blown and naturally aspirated. There are many changes that need to occur whenone pressurizesan engine. Compression lowering is one of the first. When you pressurize the engine, the effective compression ratio increases drastically. Blown head gaskets, premature detonation in the cylinders do to the volatile state of the overly compressed mixture, and excessive bearing wear can all occur if the system isn't designe properly. Thereare fairly simple formulas you can use to find the effective compression based on how much 'boost' you have, but you will want to make sure your ignition system is retarding properly in proportion to the boost, and you will definetely need to know if your factory gas pump and injectors can handle the needed gas. I don't mean to babble, but I have seen too many people destroy engines over the years because they bought some over-the-counter turbo or supercharger system. I don't want to see anyone experience this. If engine tuners like Ruf provide the whole engine, that is one thing, but some add in the back of a magazine is another.
