I've been looking into fitting cruise control on my 996 Turbo, seems to be a few companies offering the retrofit of this, or supply of parts. I see there is a change is what's required depending if the car is from 2002 onward or not. Although my car was registered late 2001 I was under the impression that it was a 2002 model as it had a glove box. Is it that simple to distinguish, or is there more to it than that? I'd very much appreciate the answer if anyone can help with this.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You can tell the model year by looking at the 10th number of the vin, 1 = 2001, 2= 2002 and so on. If this helps or not depends if your source of info relates to model year, or build date! Don't know if a Porsche dealer can tell you the build date. You used to be able to get a certificate of authentication from them which definitely had it on, not sure if it was stopped or you have to pay now. I'm sure someone will know.
Thanks for the information, very helpful. The 10th letter on my VIN is a 2, that along with the glove box means it should be a 2002 then. Good news as it makes the cruise install a little cheaper.
