Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi Looks like my son needs a new battery in his 996C4S - although he has been away for a couple of weeks - anyway any recommendations for a new battery? I am going to check how old this one is in the meantime. Cheers

POST 3Original post

I like Varta. A lot of the OEM fitments on these cars were Varta but with a Porsche part number on them. That said, any premium brand should do. These cars are old school and don't require AGM batteries and they don't feature a modern BMS system.

POST 5Original post

I’ve had Yuasa and Bosch - both good. Try Tayna batteries! Generally the cheapest and always had good service from them.

POST 6Original post

Bosch, Varta, Banner (supply Porsche) and Yuasa are the current top brands. Another recommendation for Tayna.com

POST 7Original post

I bought a few batteries from Tayna before and if the battery fails then the return/replacement process is not simple!

POST 9Original post

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than go through returning a battery again. See my email in the other thread to see what they tried to do. Read reviews online, turns out I'm not the only one. Caused no end of trouble for me on our merc, sent it haywire. Date on the battery was 2020, bought in 2024. The worst thing is, they actually think the battery i returned is resellable, so goodluck to the new owner!

POST 10Original post

I'm using typical or standard car batteries less and buying more tiny lightweight LiFePo4 batteries

POST 11Original post

The best one is one maintained and not left to go flat. My car had a Bosch silver on it when I got it 5years ago and is still as good as new now, but it's left on a mains powered battery maintainer ran out from a window to under the car port, left in the frunk.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Turns out he doesn't need a new battery - he had been away for a couple of weeks - I got one of those booster packs and the battery has come to life and touch wood seems okay.

POST 13Original post

Here's the battery tester I bought, well worth buying one. Tells you how many cold cranking amps it has and the voltage it's holding. There are some much cheaper ones for about £15, I just bought a branded one i could trust. The battery is thought was bad was at 115% capacity The new battery I bought was toast So I bought another new battery and that was around 125% capacity The battery in the porsche was 75%
