Just got out the car and left briefcase in back seat. Went to open the door and the handle does not engage the unlocking mechanism. The window moves, but I cant get in... Passenger side is fine, and the drivers side opens from the indside fine too - so it must be something to do with the drivers side outside handle mechanism. Anybody else had this problem? is there a quick solution? And is it costly if i go to get it fixed at my garage... thanks tom

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Fairly common, I'm afraid. It is either part 9 or 12 which has become detached or broken. I can't say how easy it is, as I have never replaced one, but it isn't an expensive part.
Had same problem on mine. I took the door card off and found that there was a sliding sleeve locking part 9 and 12 together. It was hard to see and access fiddly. I slid sleeve it back into place, no trouble since ( that was 18 months ago). Cost me nothing but time in stripping the door (carefully)
