OK , the thing that I dont like to see happened... wife driving our 996 , 1999. Started it , I was standing a short distance away... to my horror and shock a cloud of blue smoke came out. Not much , but clearly blue smoke. And only for a short while , then gone. Is this also normal with these cars? Even with more modern engines and relatively low mileage , mine is driven less then 3o k miles. Naturally I know the older 911 , many of those puff out blue smoke on start up , but 996 too ? Or am I worrying too much absolutely nothing?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Worrying about nothing. Completely normal.
yep..one thing that helps though.. is if you let it idle for a minute or two when you arrive, then shut it down. Give the oil a chance to get back in the tank.
Thanks..... I almost started to see nightmares of a possible engine failure & cost of it....
You should know that the Oil/Air Separators on naturally aspirated 996's like to fail. When this happens, after a stint of aggressive driving usually, oil will find its way into the intake. 996's have quite a bit of oil in them and little room in the crankcase to breathe. I have first hand experience with the problem and the fix. Just thought I'd plant that seed.
