Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I cant find any stampings and they don't look oem. The mufflers are fabspeed, but I don't see fabspeed markings on the headers. Just want to see if whoever manufactures these will step up to the plate and replace it. I'm guessing they welded mine on a Friday. At the collector, only half of the pipe was welded, and a crack began to propogate through the weld. It does look like there is a heat effected zone, so maybe the welder ran out of filler material and just said **** it.

Does anyone know if Vertex auto is a vendor here? According to their website, these Schnell headers are sold in the US exclusively through them. http://www.vertexauto.com/ShowItem/1...e%20Elite.aspx

POST 4Original post

Worst case scenario take it to a good welder and have him bang it out for $50.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I used to work as a fabricator before I got my engineering degree. I could weld repair it myself, but this is clearly a manufacturing defect.

POST 6Original post

And from the looks of the patina and rust on it I would not count on a warranty.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You don't get what you don't ask for. I didn't find anything about what what manufacturing warranties they offer, so it's worth a shot. As per their product description, "dual welds at joints for astonishing durability."

They might've been at one point but I've seen Schnell headers sold by many vendors in the past couple years at least. I would personally just weld it or get it weld it and be done with it. Warranty processing time/effort might not be worth it for something like this. Also you have to prove they are in fact Schnell's and not just some replica's. Hard to do without any kind of part stamping or badge.

You're probably right. The car passed smog a few months ago, so if it's leaking, must not be that bad. May just end up getting fabspeed headers, but we'll see. Will probably end up just up repairing it myself realistically.

POST 10Original post

why dont you call schnell and ask them about it, they would be the one who warrantees it

Maybe I should call Jake...

That would be quick and harmless. The worst they can say is no and then you'd be back to what you were intitally intending to do anyways. Just don't harbor on it or let it stress you out but it doesn't hurt to always ask. If they say no, just move on.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not too worried about it because if it passed smog and doesn't sound like there is an exhaust leak, I doubt vehicle performance is effected. I just need to grab some 308L filler rod and I'll tig it up during my thanksgiving weekend.

To answer the OP's original question -- these don't appear to be OE at all. Having a local welding shop repair the broken/incomplete welds is the economical fix, especially if the OP can remove/reinstall the headers as a DIY job.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
