Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, the warranty that the non-franchised dealer gave me with my 2000 C4 is just about to expire. So, I've booked the car in for a service + a "warranty examination" with my local OPC, with a view to getting a Porsche warranty. However, my currrent warranty company (Car Care Plan) have naturally been in touch to offer me an 12 month extension - they've now joined with Black Horse to offer "Black Horse Motor Warranty". Now I wouldn't have considered this because my current plan has a £2k ceiling, per claim. BUT, the new plan has NO upper limit, and there's no limit on the number claims I can make, other than the aggregate total cannot exceed the market value of my car. PLUS, they're offering me a premium of £549, payable over 10 months @ £54.90 pm (% APR interest!). AND, there's no examination to be undertaken, so they'll accept the car as it is. OPC are charging £99+VAT for the inspection, plus the rectification of any issues that they believe compromise the provision of a warranty. Now, this actually seems like a no-brainer to me...but is it...? Can anyone think of catches...? I contacted them on Monday and asked for a copy of their T&C's...I'll scrutinise the smallprint when they arrive.

Obvious I know but check out the detail as some of the aftermarket warranties will pay out only on a reducing balance of wear and tear items of a car that has certain miles on the clock or a certain age: For example: Car is 3 years old or has done up to 60,000 miles warranty company will only pay out 60% of wear and tear parts and/or labour.

Hi Neil, I think you also need to look at claim limites and labour rates. Some policies have a max hourly labour rate which can be less than an OPC or even specialist will charge. Does this policy cover the dreaded RMS issues should it arise? The OPC warranty does. I have had lots done under warranty in the last couple of months inclusing a new Tiptronic gearbox @ £6500 because it sprung a leak and the diff started making noises! I would stick with the OPC warranty and you will keep the service history and maintenance intact (assuming it is already) and more likely to get some good will out of Porsche GB. Also, the OPC Warranty includes Porsche Assist breakdown cover. All the best, Rob
