Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 1999 996 with about 110 000 klm or just over 60000 miles. It is used as regular transport but i have noticed some noises recently has anyone got any suggestions on what they could be.... Noise from front end like a dull rattle when going over bumps, sometimes it does it and other times it does not. It is a low deep rattle from the drivers side. I then noticed that when I steer to full lock, and then quickly move the wheel from full lock back and forth rapidly i am getting a knock from the steering. Could this be related?Or seperate problems? I also notice when I put the tiptronic into drive the noise from the box increasing. It is making a quick tapping noise which is resonably high pitched. Any help would be useful as I live a ling way from a Porsche workshops Cheers

My guess would be front strut bearing supports. Common after about 50,000 on 986/996. When you change them, time to do shocks at same time, same labor.
