Hello, everyone, i work night shift, and i just joined The forum, and since owning my 99 996 for a year now, iv been browsing the chats, and you guys are awsome, very knowledgeable, Cheers to All. I been upgrading my dash speakers, rear side speakers, and my door speakers, lot of googling, reading everyones post, call me the "google mechanic", iv seen lots of posts, and iv researched lots of pdf in other web sites. The subject with the door speakers not working, i see the wires, out from my spkers , green/ green brwn out of both enclosures from both doors. I stuck my hand up inside doors to verify that they are going thru door jam boot..my stereo is a cassette flip down model, it has a cd changer under hood on left hand factory spot.
Im hoping that mikesz post 899 on 9/4/2015 had similiar problem, with his 996, would still be around,? But that was like ages ago..lol it took me 40 years to buy me a lil red porshe, better late than never. And if i only knew where the actual speaker wire harness? Goes to, under the bonnet? Even though my car didnt come with an amplifier, the brown plug behind stereo only has 8 wires, just enough for the front left n right and rear right n left wires at cassette player rear..so were are the door wires attached to? I see them going thru door jam..any and all help is always appreciated. 1999 996 is old news, but im a happy owner, thats dream came true, a turbo edition, or a classic whale tail 911 would have been the ultimate..lol
Happy to report, i got my door speakers working, i called one of the califoria stores and spoke to a gentleman, and he said if porsche came with door speakers, then there will be an amplifier somewhere, so i got out there and searched , which i been searching for a month, and came to the conclusion, maybe not this car, so i pulled door panels off for the third time, verified that the door spker wire did go thru wire loom, jam, then i took apart the door jam harness clip apart. And saw that the wire pins from door spkers didnt folliw thru male side of pins/clip, mystery solved...i cut, soldered new wire to door speaker wires and routed them to factory cassette, and tied them to brown plug, they work NOW, eventually i will wire a 6 channel amp, and will have door speakers wires there available..if anybody needs pictures, i took "em...now i can work on other projects (72vw, 76 T/A,36chevy ratrod, 74F-100
