Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking for a new 996 turbo and got a specific spec in mind. Seen some that tick all the boxes but have the optional phone module installed. Which I am not really a fan of. Is it difficult to remove the phone? Would I just require a used replacement panel? The phone area where the phone sits seems much wider than cars that don’t have the phone option, is that just a difference in panel or more work required

POST 2Original post

When I was researching phone mounts for mine I stumbled across the side piece you have pictured listed on ebay. To me it just looked like a thicker side cheek that clips onto the centre console the same way as the standard piece.

POST 3Original post

I removed the phone from my car, it's super easy and yes - you will need a replacement panel.... However, what some people do is to remove the phone and mounting hardware but keep the wider panel and then fit a modern phone mount to it.

POST 4Original post

I removed all of Telephone, front mounted CD changer and PCM2 in mine. Moved the HVAC up into the dash. There is also a unit under the seat which can be deleted but you need a MOST continuity loop to sub in so the fibre optic loop in maintained. Completed it by ordering the GT3 console delete. I love the more retro look and removed over 5kg. Thinking about it, I also had to move the heated seat controls which I put in the blanks for rear windows and get another little trim piece to tidy in front of the gear stick.

Thanks for the comments guys. Assume I can just get a replacement panel off any 996 that is being broken for parts (that doesn’t have the phone option).

Yep, it's just a matter of finding the correct colour and material.
