So, here’s a thing I did this weekend. I have had on my mind for over a year now, that I wanted a tall shifter, but I couldn’t quite bring myself to go the CAE route. So, before I sink coin into a numeric racing setup that I’ll surely cut and weld on, I decided to mod my Porsche short shift kit and live with it a while to see how I like it. Already I love it! Keeping my hand close to the steering wheel is fantastic, and the throw is about as far as my OEM shifter was… if I remember right. The added leverage means I don’t need anywhere the same muscle. But if I do muscle it, you can feel the plastic flex, which is not my favorite. As for the mod itself, I measured the shaft at 7.5mm flat to flat and 16mm front to back. So, I thought I had a good chance of hitting those numbers if I hammered out some 1/2” tubing. Came out within .5mm both directions… probably my most accurate work with a hammer to date lol! I ground the bottom to fit over top and gave myself an extra 50mm of shifter height. Plus I canted it in toward me a little bit. And the TIG welded a bead on each side…. While sitting in the drivers seat ha! Of all the things I’ve done while sitting in that seat, I never thought welding would be one… Hilariously, all that plastic in the Porsche short shifter meant the shaft was completely insulated and thus, my car electrics we protected from high frequency. This whole thing took an afternoon…. Should’ve done this waaay sooner!

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
