Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've literally just bought a 911, I got it home into garage to discover a steering fluid leak from the steering rack on the nearside. I'm aware this will mean a new steering rack but what I'm not sure of is how do I test the relief valve as I've read a few things saying the failure of the relief valve can cause damage to rack. Our of curiosity where is the relief valve located, my first thought would be the pump but I'm not 100% sure. Thanks

POST 2Original post

There are some steering rack refurbishment companies in the market contact your local Porsche specialist.

POST 3Original post

Are you sure it is from the rack itself? A common cause of leaks in this area are the hose connectors. The ferrules rust, and it causes a leak.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hoped it was something along the lines of that but the rubber boot was leaking and when I pulled it back I could see that fluid dripping out of the rack. I'm hoping it's just a defective seal on the steering rack.
