Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi - need advice please. I have a tappet noise when my 996(1998) is at normal operating temperature and at idle only. The noise is not there when cold/start up or when at higher revs than idle. Any advice/what it could be etc would be appreciated........ Mart. Migration info. Legacy thread was 90808

POST 2Original post

Enough oil ? How old oil ? Wrong viscosity ? Migration info. Legacy thread was 90918

POST 3Original post

Could be the tappets. They are hydraulic, but do eventually wear I think. I don't know, but I suppose if they were worn, then at low oil pressure (when warm and at tick over) they could allow a little noise. I doubt it is anything to worry about yet. Migration info. Legacy thread was 90919
