Since it seems Cayman (987) mats are not made/listed by all companies, are the drivers and passengers footwells any different between a 987 and a 997?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'd think they're different, but one way to confirm is to look up the part numbers on the Suncoast Parts site to see if they're the same. If you want a recommendation that's better than OEM, I'd go with LLoyd Mats - great quality, a ton of material and color choices, custom logos/script, and not that much more expensive than factory mats (but much better quality)
I think i had Lloyd mats in my Range Rover years ago. Vert nice carpet mats but they are not covering the sides at all and probably don't cover the dead pedal.
I have Lloyds Mats in my Boxster . You're right that they don't cover the sides or the dead pedal. They're designed the same way as the factory mats and are meant to cover the floor only. The sides already have carpeting and the dead pedal is rubber/metal, so I'm not sure what the point is of covering those areas would be. It sounds like you're describing an all-weather mats like the ones Weathertech makes. I think they're the most well known manufacturer of all weather mats, but there may be others out there. Good luck with the search!
On a daily driver, you are likely to track in water, dirt and mud, and if any is on the side of your shoe tread, it easily ends up on the side carpet.
I just picked up some CocoMats. Love them.
The mats are virtually identical. I know this because I have a 997.2 and my wife has a 987.2 . There are two different mats though, Bose and non- Bose on the Cayman and 997 Cab. The Boxster and 997 coupe don't have a Bose sub in the footwell, so order the "non- Bose " mats even if you have the Bose system . The Bose mats have a cutout for the passenger footwell subwoofer. Personally I run Weathertech mats.
