Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had our '01 Cabrio out today. After a 40 minute ride, pulling into the driveway got a wiff of what can only be described as a "hot water smell". The temp was normal and there is no leak on the ground. Felt around the carpet but nothing wet. Had the heater on (top was down and it was cool out) if that lends a clue. Thoughts?

Cosmoline a protective coating on the underbody has a "hot smell" especially after a long drive.

POST 3Original post

Pcars always 'smell' a bit after a spirited drive.

POST 4Original post

Awe - the smell of a happy Porsche I am looking forward to a weekend at the track (this weekend!)

POST 6Original post

A hot water smell? Here I was thinking I was the only one that could burn water Anyway probably just your skin got its temp lowered then a breeze off the warm engine or a draft out of your jacket got near you snapping you out of the euphoria of driving your Porsche Do you have the service manual downloaded? Pg 211 shows a diagram of the coolant.

POST 7Original post

Hot water smell is much better than hot a@@ smell. Count your blessings!

POST 8Original post

Your coolant expansion tank could be starting to crack. Is it all yellow and brittle looking? Eventually you will get the smell all the time, and then a drop or two of coolant will appear at the left rear corner. Good news is that it's a (relatively) cheap repair. MkI cars are easier than MkII cars.

I thought this was a thread about a marital issue. LOL
