Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I have a 2003 996 Convertible with heated and PARTIAL-power seats, non-memory function. The leather was cracked and broken badly. A guy had a pair of newer leather, heated and power seats for sale. I bought them and went to install and soon realized - this may not work. I read online that the passenger is easy since there is no memory module and actually the passenger works great! All the power functions as it should, but the drivers has nothing. No power to them. The drivers seat appears to have the module underneath for memory, and the wire harness looks the same as the passenger side. It connected right up but nothing works, fuses look good. From what I found, many folks said it was the memory seating issue and you had to buy something, but mine looks like has the big circuit board enclosure underneath already, so anyway to figure this out or try to understand what I need to do? My seats had power recline and tilt but was manual for sliding forward and backwards.

POST 2Original post

I "believe" the seat memory module has to be coded to work, there is a tie between the seats and mirrors and what not..

POST 3Original post

U can hook up the seat and not hook up the memory modual. U just hook up the plug thats the same as the plug on the pass side. That plug has the seal belt wire and a large power and ground that serves as feed for the manual buttons. U really should study the diagrams and compare the harnesses.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If I order the memory module from ebay (the buttons), how can I be sure the wiring harness is under the door-sill trim panel? I guess I can open it up and check, but really i dont care about memory seats, just trying to understand why nothing on the seats work.

POST 5Original post

I woild have to study the schematic but u r not gonna wire up the modual if your car was not made with it. I added in the memeory stuff to a gt3 harness amd it required a lot of work. The seat will work without the memory u just have to put power on the correct terminals. I wont be near my manual until tomor evening and ill try to walk u through it
