Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gents, I have been searching for an early 996 coupe (manual) for several months, without luck. The criteria are: - Colour should be a little out of the ordinary e.g. Speed Yellow, Guards Red Etc - 70K miles max with complete history - Sensibly priced. I intend to keep the car for around 2 years and do around 7k miles a year. Ideally, I don’t want to lose my shirt or depreciation or have a car that is really difficult to shift. I cam across this rather unusual example: [u yCh3j7RO6] I know this is a real Marmite colour, even more so that red or Yellow. The view I take, rightly or wrongly, is that it is a safe bet at the right price. At what price do you think a car like this is a safe bet? Thanks for your opnions. Migration info. POST 2Original post

That's not a bad price for a Rivera Blue GT3 looky, in view of the extras... a safe bet depends on the result of the PPI Migration info. Legacy thread was 138373

POST 3Original post

I like it a lot, though it is a lot of money, for £7k more you could buy and early Mk1 GT3 with big miles on it. I would say for £24k, maybe not a bad deal love the colour Migration info. Legacy thread was 138374

POST 4Original post

One of the prettiest Porsches I ever saw was the Riveria Blue 997 C4S at Eynesham last year (can someone post a pic again please). However not too sure if I like it on this car or maybe it just needs black BBS wheels on it. I would be more concerned about the spec rather than the colour though. There is something not quite right about a car pretending to be what it isn't. As Daz says, if you can find another few grand then get into a proper GT3. Good luck anyway Migration info. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, a genuine GT3 (as a daily driver) is off the cards at the moment…My gut feel is that £23-24K is not too bad. I am guessing that a dealer would buy this for £18K? Migration info. Legacy thread was 138380

IMHO you'd be advised to think carefully about buying a 996 if you want to something that will not depreciate. Buy one because it represents extremely good value for money as a performance car and may not shed its value any quicker than comparable cars. Buy wisely and you should be fine but be aware that there are few 996 variants that are holding their value in the same way as previous models. I say this based on but is my understanding of the advice I've been given during a lengthy conversation with someone in the industry. Whilst I'm with you on colour choice, I can also say that I was advised to stay clear of SY and GR as colours. The latter really surprises me but I could point you at two SY cars that are really desirable models and have not sold in foour months at dealers. This is knid of born out at the factory. Go there and the colours like white, yellow and red really stand out, mainly because todays buyers seem to prefer the blacks, greys, blues and silver. Bottom line, there are some really great 996's out there that represent GVFM IMHO. I thought this one was really nices Good colour combination and specification, so it would probably appeal if and when it comes to resale (I've no interest other than having made some enquiries of the buyer). http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/152745.htm Good luck wih your search. Anthony, as with any car, it is a combination of things that sells a 911 esp a GT3, colour, spec, history, age etc SY, is not everyones taste, however just like a house, has to appeal to the right buyer, as does a GT3, these dealers hang on to their cars, untill the right buyer comes along, this doesnt devalue them, there are plenty of std colour, black, silver cars out there not shifting, Poons car stuck for weeks, and then all of a sudden several people at once expressed interest, that is the nature of it. I think that is a good price for a 2000 996 with that sort of kit on it. Not my cup of tea, but reasonably well priced. Lots of 98 and 99 cars go for around £25K. some have lower miles than this but not the extras. If you could get £1K off it would be a good deal. I would say you will lose at least £7K over the next 3 years in depreciation. Migration info. Legacy thread was 138462

POST 9Original post

And to be honest the normal 996's to me just don't work in GR or SY, yet for some reason, I think the GT's do. No idea why, but thats the way it is! Some cars just work in certain colours others don't! Migration info. Legacy thread was 138467

POST 10Original post

I think its 3-4k over priced and I dont think its well specced. No Nav/Bose(or even Porsche soundpack) No S/R Riviera is my favourite colour, but not on a 996 And whats the story with the engine upgrade? Seeing the AMD badge on the back I'd guess its been remapped Migration info. Legacy thread was 138469

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have been told that it is a 'Porsche chip' from the factory? AMD just serviced the car. Migration info. Legacy thread was 138628
