Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

My "new" 2010 987.2 S started to have a creaking sound that occurred in the first 10-20 degrees of a turn. This was slightly more prominent when turning right than left. Also more noticable when driving slowly but possibly the engine drowned it out at speed. Nobody could quite pin down where the sound was emanating from as four of us, including two mechanics, all placed it in different parts of the car. Nothing seemed to be wrong when it was checked out but in what I consider a bit of mechanical genius, Rick, from Topsfield Motor Co., discovered that 4 quarters sitting in their central coin receptacle where sliding in their slots - the one area that no one thought the sound was coming from ! not only didn't it cost me anything but I even came out of the whole business a dollar richer. Happy days in my Cayman.

POST 2Original post

Glad you figured yours out. I have an odd creaking sound as well when turning the wheel slowly in my 987.1 but there are no quarters involved. It sounds like it is coming from the steering rack
