Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Bit of a long shot here, but has anyone seen a description of how the interior plastic trim panels are attached/removed from a Boxster hardtop? I expect 986 and 987 tops will be the same for this. My left side plastic panel that covers most of the vertical surface and scross the top of window opening is coming loose. I really want to avoid breaking plastic bits while trying to reattach. Mine is a 987, it that matters. Thanks

POST 2Original post

I've got my answer. Nothing to it. I pulled top and set it upside out in its stand, just like a workshop position. That big trim panel is only held in by a bunch of reusable plastic fasteners that push into holes in metal top frame. Now just a matter of carefully aligning them so none miss their holes. I don't even see any reason it came loose as all fasteners look fine.

POST 3Original post

For the rest of you lucky few with tops, it looks as if I probably dislodged the inside trim when holding the top for install with one hand around middle of window opening rather than just at front and rear lips where there is no plastic trim. The snaps don't hold it really tightly. Don't see any other reason for it to come loose.

Glad the hard top is still working for you, @mbsl98 ! Heads-up that those fasteners can fall apart/degrade, but they're readily available to purchase. I took apart mine to install some sound deadening material, but some of the fasteners didn't make it. So if any are loose, you could replace them if you wanted to. Cheers.
