Hi- I am new to this forum. This was a great idea to setup. This way I can share my impatience for the cayman . I love the new cayman S but its a bit pricey for me so I am going to wait for the base Cayman . Does anyone have any info on it - pricing, availability, motor. I assume it will have the revised 2.7 liter from the base boxster . I only want 4 options on the car. blue sport leather seats, porsche sport suspension, porsche short shifter and the 19's. I want the exterior color to be Carrara White. I find the shape of this car to be timeless and plan on driving and keeping it for a really long time. Maybe when I get to 120k in mileage I'll convert it into a dedicated weekend racecar. This is the best designed car in a long time. For me, it is lightyears ahead of the new 998, anything currently from BMW or Audi. I won't even mention Mercedes. For me, the two car companies with the best car design are Porsche and Alfa Romeo. Thanks to Guigaro from Italdesign! Both are able to capture a classic timeless beatiful design that does not age. Its very difficult to understand the precise balance between elegance, style and sportiness. To me, these are the only two car companies that are able to capture this. I have always been in love with cars as I am sure many of you are. I have idolized Ferrari's (I am italian) but my devotion has been dying since the Enzo, 612 Scaglietti, 430. I don't doubt they are unbelievable performers with an unsurpassed history but function has preceeded form. Its a different story on the race track but on the road, I believe cars should be art in motion. Therefore this is partially Pininfarina's fault as well. Does anyone know the Cayman 's designer? Is it Porsche internal design staff or Michael Maurer that came from Saab? Sorry to sidetrack with my private insanity. Thanks for having me in your forum and I look forward to hanging out with you and speaking about the Cayman . Giacomo Edited by - speedgod on 09/22/2005 1:15:45 PM

Some reports have the base Cayman coming out as early as January 06. I think that it's a reasonable guess that it will be priced higher than the standard 987 with a 2.7L engine producing 250-255HP. The 255 figure would be an additional 15HP comparable to the BoxsterS/ CaymanS upgrade. I would expect the price to be 50-52K USD with base trim comprable to the Boxster . Currently there is no standard spring 'sport suspension' but PASM is available. The options for the base Cayman will likely be identical to the base 987 Boxster . It's very easy to add 10K USD in options to any Porsche . The car was designed 'in house' by Porsche ,but really it is very clearly derived from the Boxster despite significant bodywork unique to the Cayman . I also like Carrara White for it's sport look and its price!

I was wondering the same thing about the base Cayman , you say it'll cost around 50-52k in the US, any idea about UK? If its priced boxster -style, i'll guess it'll be about 35kGBP. Do you know if Porsche are taking orders for the base Cayman yet?

POST 4Original post

I agree. 52k seems right. 255 hp seems also proportionally fair for the price compared to the S. i cannot wait.

POST 5Original post

I'm thinking the base Cayman will follow form with its big brother........a slightly bigger engine with more HP and torque thana 2.7 Boxster . I think the rumors of a 3.0 engine in the base Cayman make a lot of sense to me. I don't think you will be able to get away with just a higher output 2.7 engine here for the price Porsche will want to charge for it. Remember, the whole Cayman line is based above the Boxster in Porsches mind. But I would almost tend to believe that Porschewill try and sneak in a sub $50k price tag for it.......something like they did with the S and $60k.........so my guess would be around $48,900or so.

POST 6Original post

even better. i estimate i need 3k in options plus 3k in sales tax/fees on top of the msrp.

POST 7Original post

Have placed a pre order with a UK dealer for the base Cayman. They reckon it will come in at around £38k and then you'll need about 3 or 4k of extras. Timeframe at the moment is about 1yr and power should be around the 255bhp mark coming from a 2.8 (bored out 2.7 I guess).

POST 8Original post

I would agree that late 06 base Caymans may appear, in the uk retail 35k plus options..........................its the Cayman RS that I am looking to, have a letter of intent in

POST 10Original post

Speedgod, 3k in sales tax, where do you live? Maybe I should have my Cayman delivered there.
