Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Just rec'd my Nov Excellence with their 'Cayman S! First Driving Impressions.' They had this to say after testing at & around Malmsheim ... in the dry & in the wet: - the Cayman is as rigid a platform as any serious driver could ever wish for. - the new Porsche coupe consistently feels like it's cast as a single piece ... . - turn-in is both crisper and quicker ... than it would be in a Boxster. - the Cayman has an inherent stability that feels impenetrable. - Where the 911 Carrera, good as it is now, always reminds you of its pendulous weight at the rear, the Cayman S races to the apex of a turn like a giant, closed-top go-kart. - The Cayman S is meant to be a hardcore driver's car before anything else. - a true enthusiast's car in no uncertain terms. - GT and RS models aside, this really is the best-handling production Porsche ever. and the only negative comment: - Killjoy EU drive-by noise regulations are responsible for the Cayman S's weak exhaust signature.

negative commend easily fixed. nice free flowing after market exhaust. bring out the 6 cylinder concert!

POST 3Original post

It may sound different from inside the car as opposed to a "drive-by" signature, particularly since it's a coupe.

POST 4Original post

Negative comment -- As for the exhaust note, has anyone heard the sports exhaust on a Boxster or BoxsterS? If so, please comment. That may be what it sounds like on the CaymanS. I'm thinking about that as an option. The exhaust note of my 99 Boxster is very disappointing. I like to know by ear where I am in the rpm range (so that I don't always have to look at the tach) and my 986 doesn't talk to me.

POST 5Original post

The 987 S has a great exhaust note if the Cayman S is the same or better I will be pleased.

POST 6Original post

At present can not spec sport exhaust on a Boxster S or the Cayman S, come on Porsche play fair/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/drive.gif

POST 7Original post

I had a 99 Boxster and it definitely did not have any exhaust note until the engine was over 5K rpm. I drove a 987S before placing a Cayman order, and I can tell you that the 987S had a great engine sound. The 987S is light years ahead of the 99 986 in performance. If I wanted another drop top the 987S would already be in the garage. I also think that the 987S is much better than the last 986SI drove, an 02. Once I drove the 987S I knew the Cayman would be a winner. I don't think I would worry about a sport exhaust for the Cayman or the 987 Boxster based on the 987S sound, I certainly wouldn't want any more, and even if it were offered I would not add it until I heard the stock exhaust first.
