Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Gear change is getting a little sloppy sometimes finding 5th instead of 3rd etc. Standard gearbox covered 25,000 miles. Lingage? Cables? Driver? Warranty?

POST 2Original post

Operator error  Ought to be covered under your warranty I'd have thought though Dave.......

POST 3Original post

Operator error !! Very good.. Maybe he is suffering from sun stroke !! Or just getting old and maybe a TT tip will be on the cards !!

POST 6Original post

Is your car still under warrenty? if so get it checked as it might be the selector pin what'sit that's loose/broken, my old car did the same and it was a gear box out job for a part that costs £25! But then the 996 might have different gear box to the 993.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers Mick - car is still under warranty so will visit OPC soon

POST 8Original post

Would be interested to know the outcome - my 'box is feeling quite notchy (as opposed to sloppy!) these days, more so than I remember it being so gave it to OPC who said it was 'all within tolerances'. Haven't driven any other manual 996's so not sure what 'normal' feels like but can't believe this is as good as it gets... Chris

POST 9Original post

I've always found mine to be quite notchy and have driven 3 or 4 std 996's all were the same........

POST 10Original post

Mine is notchy when cold but once warm (within about 3-5 mins) its one of the best gear-changes I have ever had - very smooth and precise as expected. The only critism is the throw is a bit long, but a quickshifter would solve that I think.... just my 2penneth...

POST 11Original post

Dave... it's old age setting in... your reactions get slower as you get older
