Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello everyone, I have a 2011 Boxster 987.2 and it's time to change the PDK transmission filter. I recently learned that the factory filter is integrated into the transmission oil pan itself, meaning the entire pan needs to be replaced as a single unit. My main question is regarding the material of the pan. I've seen that there are two types available (plastic and metal/aftermarket aluminum options). I tried searching by VIN to confirm the exact part number/type, but I don't have good access to a reliable parts catalog site. Does anyone know for certain which type is installed from the factory on this specific model year? Knowing for sure what is under the car (plastic or metal) would help me a lot in ordering the correct parts. Thanks in advance!

My 2010 987.2 2.9 Cayman , the pan is available from FCPEuro. I'd just get it and the fluid from there.

Factory pan is plastic. Aluminum pan is aftermarket. There is also a larger machined pan that is aftermarket and expensive.

My car has 102,000 km (approximately 63,400 miles) on the odometer. It is a 2011 model year. Porsche recommends replacing the filter—which is located inside the oil sump/oil pan—every 8 years, in my opinion/based on what I know. My question is: Should I replace the entire oil pan assembly now, or just perform the standard oil and filter service?

Whole thing. Get your parts from FCPEURO. They have DIY packages that you can get that includes everything. And this is important: if you don't have a scanner that can put your transmission into Fill Mode, carefully measure what you take out, a graduated cylinder is the best way, and put that exact amount back in.

To be honest, I find that FCP Euro is more expensive than Design911
