Greetings. Searched the forums; both bulbs good, getting 12V at the switch while in reverse (on top of the transmission) and removed the switch and verified with a meter that the switch is functional. I suppose it could be a wiring issue but Im wondering: even though the switch does indeed open and close, is it perhaps worn and not moving enough distance? Didnt want to throw $30 at a new switch when it seems to be working. My question is: 1. where does the 12V wire physically go AFTER the switch? Im assuming up into the engine compartment to a connector but I dont know where. 2. Should I just get a new switch and try it since it seems like thats often the problem ? thanks for your input. 2000 996 cab 6-speed

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The wire from the switch goes to a junction plug on the rear relay frame, then splits out to the two rear light assemblies. I'd jumper the switch plug first to see if the light come on.
U also have to verfiy ground at the taillight plug.

My friend, that was a great idea and Im embarrassed that I didnt think to do that. Ill blame it on age. The lights did indeed come on when jumpered, so Im assuming that the switch is flaking and will replace it. Thanks to you folks for your suggestions.
Thanks
