POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I pulled into a hotel parking lot in Phoenix this week and there were six Panameras. No badges, Georgia distributor plates. These are some seriously ugly cars.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry I forgot to hit upload.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6488305

Two of the cars (turbos?) had huge brakes and three piece rotors. The others had whimpy slotted rotors.

POST 6Original post

I don't think they're ugly, they're just not head turners. Nothing impressive. The Aston Martin 4 door sedan looks way better though, in comparison.

POST 7Original post

Nice catch, JimB. Thanks for posting these. Uh, not my cup of tea. But, just like the Cayenne and the Cayman and the Boxster, I'm sure there will be a following of buyers (Doctors with a family, to name one group). They could have extended the roofline and done a Volvo C30 rear treatment and called it a Shooting Break or something. Makes me think they are perfect for Americans since, just like these models, our asses grow fatter with each generation.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6488403

Way better? That's an understatement.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6488412

This is actually the first new Porsche that I really don't like. I love the idea of a high speed 4 door but compared to the other sedans it really sorta sucks.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 6488448

You know what they say about opinions right? There like ********, everybody has one!! Brakes do look good, cant wait to drive one!!

POST 11Original post

Butt ugly... My wife just looked at the pics and asked if AMC was making the Pacer again (I said, no that was the 928)

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 6488852

Funny! I've always said - the 928 was the best Mercedes that Porsche ever built.

POST 13Original post

What's up with the gap between the headlight and the bumper? No question the Aston Martin looks much nicer.

POST 19Original post

those are porsches? wow, panamama yeah. i guess there goes my brand loyalty....

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 6488432

yep I was hoping to see Panabanana that was more like a Quatroporte than a big long Lexus.

POST 21Original post

Those are not images of the pananeramramera......but the new MAzda 939 hatchback

POST 22Original post

Thanks for the pics JimB. I tend to be attracted to ugly cars .... I like!

POST 23Original post

I think we should provide some advertising slogans to help move these puppies (is that pups)? Having had a look at the Panamera website, courtesy of one of the other threads, my first suggestion is: The new Panamera - if you don't have high-speed internet, you probably don't want one anyway Some others: The new Panamera - just like a Porsche, only longer Panamera - trading on our reputation one more time something for the expanding family - an expanded Porsche the all-new Porsche for the button deprived

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 6489427

That's funny stuff!

POST 25Original post

I don't find the Panamera to be particularly attractive, but the same can be said about the Cayenne. We have a Cayenne, and we love it. It is a wonderful vehicle if you appreciate it for what it is. If Porsche does well selling the Panamera, which I suspect they will, then that helps keep the company profitable, and allows them to invest in the sports car business. I think that good Panamera sales mean better Carreras for us. If you don't like the Panamera, then don't buy one! That's my $.02 worth.

POST 26Original post

I wouldn't say "ugly". The only thing that looks out of place is the fake metal trim on the front fender (I assume it's plastic). And the rims are ugly. And the rear end is kind of ugly. OK, they're a little ugly! Sad, if a kid sees a Cayanne, and a Panamera, without ever seeing a 911 or Boxster/Cayman, he might think Porsche is an American car company!

POST 27Original post

typical Porsche, it takes a gen or 2 to finally catch up to what the people see as appealing.... one day people are gonna go oohh and aahh to the Panamera.... did I say those brakes are nice! Must be a pig!

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6490312

I do like those brakes! Actually I had dinner with Timo Bernhard (name dropping ) last summer and we asked him if he'd driven the Panamera. It was clear he wasn't allowed to talk about it but he was smiling ear to ear. I'm willing to bet it will be an incredible car to drive.

POST 29Original post

The only thing I don't like is the rear end in profile. Otherwise it's a handsome, but different, car. And the Aston cheated--you take a DB9 and make it a bit longer in the cabin and you've got a 4 seater, the classic Porsche shape on the other hand doesn't lend itself well to a longer cabin.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 6489313

Ok Jim, let me try again. You know what they say about opinions, right? They're like ********, everybody has one!! Brakes do look good, can't wait to drive one!! FYI. I am not calling you an "*******"; you have one, so do I, so does everyone on this forum, you have an opinion, so do I. In my opinion, (my *******, get it now Jim!) the car looks good from every view except the rear. The *** is ugly!! No bueno. But as Timo Bernhard eluded to, it will be an incredible car to drive.

POST 31Original post

These Panameras are really nice station wagons.

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 6490774

So let me make sure I understand what you just said.... not only are you calling Jim an *******, you are telling him he has an ugly *******? I'm sorry, but that is way too much information!

POST 35Original post

Quotes source post: 6491209

Tim, I'm glad you're still here, but why do you even have to put that image out there,? That's like seeing a picture of a Honda on this forum!

POST 36Original post

i like the interior. but as for the rest . . .

POST 37Original post

Not my favorite, but at least it is distinctive. My mother, god rest her soul, had a saying that held up through a long and interesting life--"It could be worse" The other high-end 4 doors I know of are all tending to blur together. . . .BMW/Audi/Lexus/Infiniti . . .

POST 38Original post

Quotes source post: 6488274

Look at the first pic in the post - I especially like the black Panamera on the end next to the white one. Classy!!

POST 39Original post

Quotes source post: 6491952

Unfortunately, it probably has more miles on it already than your car!

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 6491964

My wife's new bike has more miles than my car.

POST 41Original post

Let me be honest... you give me a panermairai for free and I will drive it.....and like with the cayenne...it has to have to right color and rims ....preferably turbo S and you'll be okay.

POST 42Original post

Quotes source post: 6494453

..... and it has to have a Tip! Nicholaas, aren't you glad I'm back?

POST 43Original post

Did anyone mention yet that it almost looks identical to the Maserati Quattroporte Bellagio?

POST 44Original post

My summary: The Aston 4dr looks fantastic. Love the tail. The Panamera is lordly awful in those pictures. My god, they didn't NEED to stay with the 911 style rear end. It just looks hideous. First though is that it's actually a Citroen. The Maserati Bellagio is even more tragic. How are these cars getting greenlighted? I'll take the Audi S8 over any of them.

POST 45Original post

Maybe the facelift model will be much improved?

POST 46Original post

Jim, thanks for the upload though can't exactly thank you for confirming it really is as ugly, to me, as I feared. Saw this pic and thought it might not be too bad ... until I saw yours.

POST 47Original post

Many of you may know of or read this on a regular basis http://www.autoextremist.com/ "Porsche closes the book on its past, with a resounding thud." This week is his diatribe on Porsche & the Panamera (if someone links to this page much later they will need to search for it - No. 493, April 22, 2009). He really can't stand W. Wiedeking (PAG CEO) and what he has done with the direction of the company...an interesting read just for the theory of what the future of the auto business might come to look like given the Chinese market.

POST 48Original post

This car may very well put Porsche out of business

POST 50Original post

that is exactly what I thought when I first saw the Cayenne I didn't think anybody would buy that butt ugly SUV...but then again I thought the same when I saw the first narrow body 996 in 1998 in Germany...I HATED IT!! and guess what? I am driving one and loving it. Americans have strange taste when it comes to cars.....that is why in my eyes the (not so) BIG 3 (anymore) gotten away with building S.H.I.T. for decades and still the designs and technology is FAR behind German car makers and ofcourse the Japanese...just my 2 cents Just saying Porsche might have found a niche market for their Panermarea..... time will tell.

POST 51Original post

It's a 4 door hatchback, 'nuff said! Cayenne didn't start out so gloriously. It's latest incarnation is very nice though. So hopefully this one follows in the same footsteps, gaining its own distinctive/attractive identity.

POST 52Original post

See the thing is the Cayenne was ugly, granted, but it was a truck, a wagon, and none of its competitors were really so much better looking. It still looked like a truck. People who wanted to buy a truck could see how it fit the bill. That panamera looks very good in the renders from the front and even the 3/4 from the front, but it looks like a wagon with that really unfortunate rear roofline, and I guess guys who like wagons will buy them. Because the guys who like sedans will buy the CLS63, the Aston, the flying spur, the 760, the S63, the S8 etc. That gap between the leading edge of the headlights and the body shell looks really off, but hey whatever. I'm not buying one. Also, some people don't care what other people think. I mean plenty of people like to talk smack about 996 headlights, we all don't seem to mind right? Personally I'm very happy with anonymous as a characterization for my 4 door people mover. Benz/Audi/BMW all make really decent sedans. We've got one of each over here. I don't really want their sports models, and I don't want Porsche's sedans or SUVs much either. If I really needed a truck, I'd buy Ford or Chevy. If I really needed an SUV, I'd buy a Land Cruiser or a Gelandewagen. I guess I'm just not the crossover demographic. I'm the guy who never understood the M5. I mean, who wants a 4 door car with a 6 speed and springs so stiff you need a live in masseuse (I'll take the masseuse though)? Enough guys obviously do, passionately at that. I'd rather have a 4 door luxury car AND a 2 door sports car. That's me. But someone will buy this panamera, and something tells me it's the guys who pay lots of money to convert ferraris and bentleys into station wagons, cause they like that shooting brake look.

POST 53Original post

It seems I'm in the minority but I like it. I certainly don't love it but I like it. I bet we'll own one after it takes it's 50-60% depreciation hit over the next couple of years.
