Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I would like to put a short throw sifter on my 2002 996. I have been looking for prices. The cheapest one I found was on Ebay for $45. Apparently they are made in China. Has anybody used them?, I know Pelican sells one for $160. I was wondering if somebody can advise me whether or not to buy the cheap one or if I shoud avoid it and get the expensive one. Thanks.

Hello - post a link to the ebay kit that you're referring to and our members will be able to tell you if they have any experience with it.

IMHO going cheap never works out. I put a proper short shift in my Cayman S (sames as 996/997 p#) and love it. I bought the shifter already installed in the housing. Just buying the shifter and replacing in the housing is a bigger PITA. If you DIY, you absolutely need the alignment tool.

I put a bone stock 997 shifter into my 2003 C4S 996. simple bolt in, and get a much improved 1/2 inch shorter shifts as the 997 has a slightly shorter arm. do a search, common mod going from a 997 into 996

Hey, I put an ebay ss kit in my 01 boxster that looked just like the B&M kit which costs alot more. I think the ebay one was like $70 versus more like $350 for the B&M. It wore out the bushings and got sloppy in about 2 years and I threw it out. Now I have a B&M and it has been performing great for a couple of years and is still very tight. The B&M felt better from day 1 so I would recommend it.
