Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found this in a Facebook post it's an interesting read on the 996 https://marqued.com/editorial/1VTTS...w6vYH0P34MKnFQQyEa_EaiBF8D9V5SybRk0ZcP-NtUW1g

POST 5Original post

It's interesting that the two contributors feel that there is such a big ("massive") difference between the 996.1 and 996.2. I don't know anyone personally that has driven both for any length of time but would be interested to hear from anyone on here that has.

POST 6Original post

Good read. I dont think there was ever any doubt that the car would become more appreciated and start to increase in value, isn't that what happens to all 911's ?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Glad to see these cars getting the cult status they deserve. I would like to think they eventually turn full Ferrari Dino. Unloved for decades and branded as 'not a real Ferrari" but now a good one is £400k+ There are similar parallels to the 996 which has often been branded 'not a real 911" and has certainly been unloved for nearly two decades Winny

POST 8Original post

About 4000 Dinos were made, 175000 996s. It is cheap partly because it is just so common, due to being a huge success. See McLaren 720s prices compared to 765LT. MC

POST 9Original post

There really isn't much difference. Those guys are just coming at it from their own little viewpoint, which to be fair, we are all guilty of. We all big up what we have and try and justify our choices. I enjoyed a good game of '996 cliche bingo" there. Things like 'The difference is massive". Erm, no it just isn't. And 'For me, driving a 996.1 versus a 996.2 is like going from a real sports car to a GT car." Absolute cobblers. They've been reading comments and regurgitating them when they aren't at all relevant. You can say the 992 Carrera is more of a GT car experience than a 996 Carrera. But even then a 992 is still a sports car. So whilst it's good to see another feature and see how enthusiastic some owners are, all this talk of massive differences is utter twaddle. :frustrated: Buy the best condition car in whichever flavour you fancy. The 3.6 engine sounds waaayy better than the 3.4. Especially with PSE. They really are one of the best sounding 911s at low to mid revs. The 3.4s on the other hand sound ok and they all sound great at high revs, but I found with my 3.4 if you try to improve the exhaust sound you just add volume and eventually lose the flat 6 sound.

POST 11Original post

Exactly my thoughts after reading the article Marky911 :thumb: Honestly those guys felt a bit over enthusiastic (at least at some parts) - I mean I love this car, but it's not like it's a holy grail of cars or something. There's one thing that bothers me when reading about 996 though - people keep mentioning that they were despised - well, maybe, but only by Porsche elitists. I've never heard a bad word about it, or it's headlights or anything from "general audience". The sales numbers speak for themselves really - never before there was a Porsche so popular. Just my two pennies

POST 12Original post

As a parallel 996 owner, my first was a 2004 996 turbo x50 aerokit in 2010, my latest a 3.4 cab bought a couple of years ago, I think they are all superb. I guess some people make stuff up just to make an article. I was just talking today about making videos from the owners point of view rather than someone who borrows a car for a few days. That was prompted by some nonsense about a Ferrari FF, but I feel capable to speak of varied 996 ownership. MC

...do it Martin...you have a receptive audience here

POST 14Original post

The usual journalistic clap trap/BS being regurgitated by these three muppets. Stuff like the cable throttle cars being SO superior to the FBW throttle cars for a start. Do me a favour. How many times have you heard a CGT, 458 Italia or Huracan Performante owner bemoaning the FBW throttle actuation on their cars and wishing they had a cable operated throttle instead ? You haven't and you won't, because to put it bluntly, it's all a load of b*ll*cks. And the laughable notion that the Mk 1 is true sports car whilst the the Mk 2 is GT car :?:  It's a long time since I've read such a load nonsensical guff from so called enthusiast owners.

POST 15Original post

its from the US so that fear of IMS keeps raising its head!! My pal mentioned to me that he wanted a cable throttle 996, he's never driven any 996! I stripped my throttle pedal down when I first bought it as it squeaked a bit, nobody mentions that it has a short cable that goes up to the sensor! Glad to read that its getting some love in general and well overdue as far as im concerned
