Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Been looking for a while Just been offered a 1999 coupe 100k miles with full engine rebuild by specialists at 85k miles Early model with orange reflectors, sunroof and manual box.Nothing added or taken away. Arena red pearl over savannah leather. Had a Cayman so not used to this market Is this a good colour combination if need to sell on? What should I bid for the car? Thanks

POST 2Original post

Welcome to 911uk Savannah is not a colour that tops many hit parades but some people like it. Arena Red is more universally liked and personally I think Arena/Savannah is quite a good combination. If the car is good mechanically and cosmetically colour preferences are often compromised. Nice, manual cars will always be in demand - even with the dreaded 100k+ showing. The full engine rebuild is an obvious +, especially if the extent of the build is supported by receipts. The actual builder can also be a major deciding factor.

Thanks for your prompt and very helpful reply I am struggling to understand the market Can anyone please suggest what I might bid for the car?

As a guide both the 996's I have had were bought and sold between 15 to 17k. None of mine have had an engine rebuild, so you might expect to pay a slight premium for a car that has been rebuilt by a reputable specialist. My last 996 and current both are in excellent condition, both needed approx 2k spending on things like suspension refresh (I do all my own work) and both have full binders of history. I bought my current car in 2022.

Asking prices do vary considerably and without knowing the detailed history and current condition of the car it's very difficult to assess. It's probably fair to say that to get it up to scratch you'd need to budget £20k. Whether this is £15k for the car and £5k for remedial work or £20k now, as it's already there, depends on the car. The market is a bit flat at the moment so you may get a bargain. Under £15k for a decent car would be good and you can always spread the cost of remedial work out over time. Good Luck.

There's a silver 2001 C4 manual appeared on the Porsche Owners UK page on Facebook & Ebay I think quoted as having a Hartech rebuild 20k miles ago (now showing approx 85k miles) with a list of other work stated with I think a black interior - Hartech engined cars are one of the sought after rebuilt engined cars in the market & if you can establish the full evidence of the work before buying by seeing a full invoice (a "full" Hartech rebuild will be north of £11k probably now) it should be a good investment. Good luck with the search and be prepared to travel for the right car - a good seller will understand your caution but should answer your questions and have a good stack of receipts to show how well they've loved the car before you decide to go and look at it. Pic below of the car I've commented on to help you find it if you're interested on FB...(I sold my last 996 purely through a post on one of the forums & the buyer travelled from Northumberland to the Midlands & still has it over 10 years later & is on this forum)

"This car starts and drives without fault. It will give the new owner many years of trouble free enjoyment I’m sure." Bit of a silly thing to put in an advert for a Porsche that is approaching a quarter of a century old. You could get some ass buy it, print the ad out and hold you to that.
