Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys! Just looking for the general thoughts on how important the brake rotor shields are, basically my old shields are corroded to the point where they have rotted away leaving the old bolts seized in the hubs, I know the porsche chocolate bolts will just snap if I try to remove them , so it's going to be drilling out and helicoil If they are absolutely necessary , I'm more worried about heat than dust , do they shield the cv boot and ball joint boots from heat or is it just to stop brake dust getting all over ?? Thanks!!

POST 2Original post

they keep water off the disks as well and do offer protection to booted ball joints. For a street car, I'd probably try to retain them. If you use heat and penetrating fluid, you will have a chance at getting them out

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If I use heat will the chocolate bolts melt away and I can put new ones in ??
