Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I know this question comes up but wanted to ask if there was anything turbo specific to do whilst the engine is out to figure out this leak. It's from the top of the box so OPC said it would need to be engine out to figure out if it's the breather tube, seal, or something much more terrible. Anyway, on my list to get done: Clutch (maybe, it was done 20K ago) Over-engine brake line A/C lines Anything else?

POST 2Original post

I can't help regarding your question but I'm curious as to why you're getting an OPC to do this job given the length of the job and their premium £££s per hour labour rate. :?:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not necessarily, but they did spot the issue when I had a free winter check and they are by far the most convenient option for me for minor work; however I am getting quotes from new indies now as I've gone off my previous one

POST 4Original post

It would be cheaper to just take the gearbox out, my car had some gearbox work recently and the engine stayed in!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What fun. Having had an indie look at it they showed clearly with an endoscope that it's pentosin coming from the slave/accumulator. Saved me a lot of money, but what a pain in the arse.

POST 6Original post

Porsche wanted to take the engine out to diagnose that?!?! It's a pain in the ass job to fix it, but you don't need to remove the engine OR gearbox. There's a guy in the US who sells a seal kit for the slave, and a new accumulator ball is around 100 quid.

POST 7Original post

No matter who's doing it dont complicate the work leave the engine in and get gearbox done. Dont introduce new/additional factors*. *I learnt this lesson the hard way with an indy repairing and gearbox and doing some engine work whilst their. Once back together the engine suddenly had a fault.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the OPC wanted engine out as next step. Pretty disappointing. I feel like they should have been able to tell it was hydraulic fluid just by looking at it or putting it on some white paper towel. Now I know better I could do the same but these folks do this all day... Yep. I know what the thread title says but obviously now I know it's just the accumulator/slave the engine will be staying put.

POST 9Original post

Hopefully toy don't have to take the engine out unlike mine. see my post "what next after 996 Turbo" for some of the things I did - albeit I did all the work my self.
