Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

since I lost my job by being laid off. Still unable to find an civil designer job. I have been able to hang on to my C4 and home so far. I had to take a job in a warehouse just to have some money coming in. A huge cut in pay that's for sure. I hope this spring and summer will be better then the last one. I may be joining gota911 sometime soon. Just need to vent.

I hope so.

POST 4Original post

so sorry to hear... buckle down, its gonna be a tough road ahead of us.

POST 5Original post

Best of luck, spend every penny wisely and save the ones you didn't need to spend. GL holding on to you baby, I know the feeling

POST 6Original post

I admire you for swallowing your pride and taking the warehouse job, I know it is difficult.

POST 7Original post

Keep your head up... although maybe good thing depends on your perspective maybe time to reinvent. GL

POST 8Original post

Good work on taking a job even though it is beneath your abilities. My job is pretty close to the core of this mess and I am definitely seeing small improvements. Hopefully things will continue to improve over the summer. Hang in there buddy!

POST 9Original post

Hang tough. It has to get better. I'm with Porsche917K, i'm seeing some improvement here in Norcal as well.

POST 10Original post

Hang in there, and at least you've got some income. Some companies are starting to hire again in the past month. I'm familiar with civil engineer, but is a civil designer similar? Have you tried LinkedIn, it's a great tool for networking.

POST 11Original post

RAC, I am sorry to hear about that! I, too, am looking for another job! I certainly hope things do begin turning around soon. As Dave said above, check out LinkedIn. You never know how some contacts on there may be able to help.

POST 12Original post

Best of luck - good place to vent. Things will definitely turn around soon enough, but seems like you're doing the right thing. Most importantly, keep up your positive attitude - makes a world of difference in the meantime, and moreover in the long term. And EDIT: Sorry to say, but these cars are simply sheet metal and drivetrain.... Everything is replaceable. You're a member of the community and selling the car doesn't change a thing as far as you being "part of the crowd" here. You can always pick up a 996 in the future should you decide to let yours go til things pick up.

Yes in a way. I do design work and the production end but I do not have a CE degree.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think the hardest part over the last year is the frustration in the hunt. I do a search every day and at times I feel like I just spin my wheels to get nowhere. I have never had a problem in finding a job. The worst part is never hearing back or the brick wall when I try to follow up on sending my resume. I have been pinching pennies since I was let go. I have given up so many things. The worst is when the guys call me to go on our breakfast runs. I hate to turn them down but I just can not spend the extra $20 in gas I'll burn up driving up to the mountains. Although one of my friends did tell me I can take is 996 targa on the runs and not to worry about the gas. He will take one of his other cars. What a guy! As far as the warehouse job ... all I can say is, there is no stress! I go to work and come home, never thinking about the job when I am home. I like the job and the people. So that helps a lot. I was a bit worried though as my boss is half my age. But I lucked out and the kid does a great job and we work very well together. The down side is the low pay and I am not sure there is any room for me to work my way up the chain. Anyway today is the 1 year mark. I do worry that I have been out of the field for so long that it may be held against me. Tomorrow is a new day and maybe some good will come for a change. So I'll continue to look.

You are right and I have readied myself to the fact I may have to let the car go, knowing that I would get another one when the time is right. Thanks everyone.

POST 16Original post

RAC, thanks for the inspiration. It takes some serious ***** to do what you are doing. Money makes life a little easier...it's no fun having to worry about paying your bills and buying food for your family, but family, friends, and health are far more precious. Hang in there. I hope your fortune turns around. The sound of a flat-6 nearing redline does help you forget your worries for a little while.

POST 17Original post

Where in CO are you located? I have friends in your business that may be able to help (CH2M Hill). PM me if interested.

POST 18Original post

+1 on Linkedin. Finding a good position right now is timing and luck.

POST 19Original post

Look on the bright side. How many warehouse workers get to drive a Porsche to work?

POST 20Original post

I think we have a couple of "Civil Designer" openings too! PM me if you want more info. but I'm in NV, not CO???

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you everyone ... I know this sounds hollow but it does help. Also I'll be PM'ing a few. Yes I am the only one that drives a Porsche to the warehouse and the only one in the company with a Porsche. It is a bit weird to me because everyone made such a big deal about it. I was never introduced by my name to the office people I meet. It was always, "this is the guy that has the Porshce". No one knows my name but they all know what I drive.

POST 22Original post

RAC, I'm sorry to hear its been such a tough year. I like to believe over time, if you are fortunate enough to create or land into a job where you are genuinely passionate about it, care about it, and want to make a difference, your talents will shine, and you'll be back on top again, enjoying what you do, and making ends meet. I hope I am not too pollyanna in this belief. And, I hope your career goals work out soon for you, John
