Continued from Part 1. To split the module in two, remove a spring and two screws and release two tab clips. Unless you are going into the electrical half, don't remove this bracket and screw, like I did. The plastic piece under the bracket and screw is part of the inside of the electrical portion of the module, so it can become more complicated. More on that later. With the two screws out and the tabs released, you can now wiggle the two halves of the module apart. It may help to move the outside latch release lever to the side. First a pic of the guts of the mechanical half when I opened it. Then a pic of what it's supposed to look like. See the problem? Here's the difference: After playing with the outside latch actuating lever for a bit I discovered that my energetic pull during my initial experiment had popped the square black plastic knob out of its retainer. When I pushed it back into place, voila the latch started to work perfectly. That was it!?! At that point I wasn't overly impressed with the job the engineers had done; IMHO this shouldn't happen. So the mechanical side was fixed! Continued in Part 3.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
