Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello The B pillar gaskets of my 2010 997 looked a little sad and flat, so I decided to replace them. As I didn't find any post about this DIY I took some pictures. Easy job, took me around 10 to 15 minutes per side. The part numbers are: 996 543 615 03 996 543 616 03 Looks like the 996 and 997 share the same part number: First thing is to open the top and work with the front door open and back window up. Start by praying out the top of the gasket which is glued to the metal frame of the window: Then unhook the top gromit circled at the top: The two other circles show the two tracks where the gasket is hooked. At the bottom push aside with one hand the two door sills: Then grab the "ear" of the gasket and pull down gently: It should slide right off.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This is how the metal frame looks like with the tracks: Now it's time to install the new gasket which is just the reverse procedure as in the first post. I put a dab of w40 at the bottom of the tracks where the gasket will go in. Not sure if this is necessary, but a little bit of lub wouldn't hurt I though. First slide-in the longest "rail" (left on the picture). Then the right pulling up gently. Then it's like sliding on a sock up (sorry blurry picture): Gently pull-up making sure the two rails slide in the tracks. Massage the part up so to make sure it is up as much as it can: Just a little more: Done! Now it's time to take care of the top of the gasket, starting with sliding-in the gromit: Finally a dab of glue and you're done! This is how it should fit with the window up:
