Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Today I noticed the big black plastic 'cup' in the center (non-ducted, seemingly non-functional)intake in the front of my car had come loose along the top. All the top fasteners and the side fasteners are pulled back, toward the rear of the car. Writing this, I see I need to get out and take a pic. I'll wait for daylight and come back and edit, for clarity. Anyway, wanted to see if anyone had seen this before. Didn't hit anything (except a lot of air molecules going darn fast). Could be dynamic pressure, I guess. I don't see an easy way to re-seat it, but I'll take a close look in the am. Hubble Edited by - hubble15 on 06/06/2006 08:50:01 AM

POST 2Original post

I took it by the dealer and they popped it back in in no time. Still don't know why it popped out.

POST 3Original post

Now I have to go check mine. There does seem to be a big 'splatter' in your photo. Bird perhaps?

POST 4Original post

yeah whats the point of that cup intake? I think a nice aftermarket grill would be a killer.....group buy anyone? COCO

POST 5Original post

I would definitely be open to a group by if such thing exist. My Tiptronic S does not have the plastic cup, however I have a functional radiator with nothing in front of it. Thus, having a matching grill would be a plus.

POST 6Original post

I think I remember reading in another thread that ithad to do with aerodynamics. I agree,a grille would look better though. Swamp

POST 7Original post

I don't believe that it has to do much with aerodynamics since as I stated above, the Tiptronic Smodels don't have it.,

POST 8Original post

Anyone with Tip should post a pic, it would be interesting to takea look. I m in for the group buy grill. Start looking around.

POST 9Original post

My understanding is that the opening is for a radiator for cooling the tiptronic transmission. That is why there is only the plastic 'cup' on the manual cars. Tony

POST 11Original post

F1 - would be nice to see whole pic of the front end; my Tip CS is due in another week and I never knew there was to be a radiator there. But then, the non-Tip front cup is totally non-functional; one might even expect to get more cooling without the cup?

POST 12Original post

Thanks, F1. Looking from that angle, seems unfinish. Having a grill will certainly jazz it up and offer some protection?

POST 13Original post

Sorry for the partial view, however I had to take it inside the garage due the bad weather outside (it's been raining the entire day). It doesn't look that bad from above, however I would like to add a matching grill if it ever becomes available.

POST 14Original post

Hmmmm. Popped out again today in fairly moderate driving ... I might have a bad part here. I'll take it back in and let y'all know what I find out. Hubble

POST 15Original post

I'm in for a group buy on a nice grill replacement part.

POST 16Original post

Any word on the poss. grill for our CS's? If not, I plan on measuring tonight, and pre-fabbing tomorrow. I should have a finished product by Friday. I can make/send a cut-out if anybody is interested. I did the same thing for my MY04 S2000 and it looked great. ~C.J.

Will do /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif

POST 20Original post

Guys and Gals, I am about 90% done. I have a pattern for the front grille, and a paintedmetal mesh cut-out. What I have yet to do is place the black rubber tubing along the edges of the mesh. I need your help and ideas. How should I go about afixing the grille to the plastic? Any and all ideas are welcome. Edited by - Mr. MRI on 07/11/2006 05:48:25 AM

POST 21Original post

Wow! I think that will look really neat; that blank space has always looked a little dorky to me. And for the Tiptronic model: As several have stated, I'd think a little extra protection for the radiator from debris wouldn't hurt.

POST 22Original post

what is behind the black plastic cup thing? perhaps if there is something that can be used as an anchor, so plastic or wire can be use to secure the grill? does anybody has taken any pictures of what's behind the plastic cup? I wish i could help, but you are in the right direction! Amil

POST 24Original post

Finished the painted mesh grille insert for my CS. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of her last night, for the lighting in my garage was too poor to see any true detail, and my poor car is at the dealer having a nail pulled out of her rear passenger-side tire at this moment, so no pic to post as of yet:-( Plus - I painted thefront lipspoilers last night to match my Basalt paint...looks GREAT! Will post pics soon, if I get her back tonight. ~C.J.

POST 25Original post

Mr. MRI - looks good so far - I've been thinking about that space as well. Keen to see your results! ==RedEye

POST 26Original post

It is not good to open up the front black plate.... You may think the mesh looks better but the aerodynamics is affected and you have a higher drag.... .29 increasing to .30... also causing a decrease in top speed... Why have it open unless you have to cool another component... Just my thoughts....
