Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Many of us have lamented that we wouldn't mind having a few more ponies in our crocs. lbelieve I read in a previous thread that in the case of the Carrera, when Porsche bumped the horsepower on a model, on occasion they offered owners of earleir renditions of that model a chip to bump horsepower on their cars. So, what are the chances of Porsche offering us owners of the 2006 Cayman S a chip to boost power a little when they do the inevitable power boost on the 2008 model? I know thhis is shooting in the dark speculation, but any of you Caymanites in the know have any idea?

POST 2Original post

Porsche has not offered chips that I am aware of since the 944 days and those were really more to correct some turbo lag problems I think. I wouldn't hold my breath for this one... oh and again, Porsche wouldn't distribute new 'chips' they would just reprogram your existing one if there was a need to. The days of adding chips are long gone...

POST 3Original post

Thanks, K-Man S. Just wishful thinking, I guess. Seems Porsche could make an extra $2000 or more per carif they offered us folks who bought the 2006 CS a chance to re-program and add 20 horses or so. I guess I'll just have to wait a while and trade up when they do a significant HP increase on the CS. Either that, or call RUF. Tony

POST 4Original post

To be honest I don't think the Cayman needs that much of a power increase. Maybe another 30 hp but any more would totally ruin the balance of the car.

POST 5Original post

Moleculo, You have a point. And how often can one truly exploit 380 HP.I for one would most likely end up in the slammerwith that kind of thrust behind me. Tony

POST 6Original post

I know what you mean. I previously owned a modified Evo and currently have in my stable a supercharged M3. Fortunately I'm blessed with above-average self-control. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif My M3's supercharger advertises that it will produce 440 hp at the crank which, if I calculate a 15% drivetrain loss, puts it in the 374 whp range, give or take. Big difference over stock? A big thrilling yes! Usable on the street? Yes. Do I really need all that power? No but it's nice to have. However, since the supercharger upgrade, I had to upgrade the clutch, exhaust components, brakes, etc. Point is: my M3 isn't really a M3 anymore. Whatever made my M3 an M3, it no longer exists because the balance has gone out of sync. All I have really is just power.

POST 7Original post

Moleculo, are you saying you regret upgrading the M3? With the same choices, would you do it again to the Cayman or prefer to leave it alone?

POST 8Original post

No, not regret. I would have done it all over again if the situation presented itself. I'm just pointing out what I said earlier about disrupting the balance; that there are consequences to every action. I've been messing with cars for a long time now and just wanted to share with everyone my experiences. I'm sure not everyone on the forum has had the chance to modify their vehicles in the past. The Cayman will stay stock. I've invested too much of my time and money modifying my last cars that I never really had the opportunity to enjoy them for what they were. I plan to enjoy my Cayman for a long time before I do anything to it, if I will do anything to it at all. Edited by - Moleculo on 06/13/2006 06:02:12 AM
