Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I happened to lift the battery cover and came across this isolator switch . Is it a factory fitted one ?

POST 2Original post

Looks after-market to me. I've never noticed such a thing on any pic I've ever seen of a 996.

POST 5Original post

Battery isolation is for race cars, strange that it is under the bonnet though.

POST 6Original post

Perhaps someone fitted that to either stop the car battery being drained when in storage or as an extra security to stop the car being stolen. Either way, defo aftermarket.

POST 7Original post

A good idea if your parked up outside and have no facility to trickle charge. Saves pulling off the terminals. Pain in the arse these cars with there draining batteries etc.

POST 8Original post

Is yours a 996.1 then? If you did that on a .2 and shut the lid down you'd be in trouble!

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The car in question is a 996.2,so you have raised a problem I did not think of. I have not laid the car up over winter yet, so did not have to put the battery on a maintenance charge, but there will come a time when i might put the key away for the winter months, but just at the moment, i do not need an excuse to listen to the sou d track of the engine through the factory exhaust Thank you to the others that took the time to reply.
