Hey guys! New to the forum so bear with me. Trying to get my feet wet in the 911 community since i just bought a low mile 996 4s. Love machining, tools, and engine rebuilding. I have been in the car business for about 15 years starting as a machinist moving to a mechanic for my cousins shop in Denham Springs. We have worked with many different Porsche customers over the years, doing many rebuilds and body work for them. We recently been working with a collector that deals with many 996s. He brought us a 2004 996 that had a bad ims. We quoted him how much it would be to be replaced and he was looking to do it cheap, so he declined our estimate.I knew that he had another 911 that had recently been in an accident so i recommended that he swaps the engine from that to save some $$$. He asked if we could do the work, so we proceeded with that and set up an appt so he could bring it by. The day came and he did not show, and we did not hear from him for sometime. I brushed it off until the other day I was on Copart and saw the crashed car he had on there! it had different colored interior and had the same Purple intake the bad engine had on his car with the bad IMS! Not too sure the legality of this but that car probably has a bad IMS on top of it being wrecked. Its out of Baton Rouge so it definitely is the same car. You can also see a picture of it below with the original interior. just wanted to warn a fellow 911 lover. Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
