Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just posted my car in the "show us your 996". 1999 C2 Cab. This car has no lower left stalk on the steering wheel to control the on-board computer below the tach under the digital speed readout. It's not broken off. Porsche tech today with 40 years of wrenching these things couldn't explain why this is. The previous owner of 12 years never realized it believe it or not. So my computer is stuck on the MPH option and I can't change it. Owner manual shows a stalk to control it. I can post a picture if if you guys think I'm crazy... Any ideas guys?

POST 2Original post

It seems it's not as strange as you may think... That stalk and the ability to control the computer (that is indeed in the car) is/was actually an "option" that you had to pay extra for if you wanted it I suppose most people got it with the "on board computer" option, but I'm sure there were a few hardcores that could have either cared less for it or just didn't want to pay

POST 3Original post

You can retrofit it. http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...stallation.htm

POST 4Original post

Interesting! Mine came with no stalk.... I just figured it was an option that wasn't on that car. Had no idea you could retrofit...

POST 5Original post

Yes, it was an option in 1999. You can enable the On Board Computer and control it without adding a stalk if you want. All you need is a button and a wiring harness connected to the instrument cluster.... https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...m-buttons.html https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-obc-hack.html (edit to add: If it isn't already enabled, you can enable the on board computer with a Durametric)
