Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I have a 2002 996 with the Split Rim Sport Design Alloys. Before I bought the car from an OPC I got them to fix some corrosion on a couple of the wheels. Within 7 months it had re-appeared, albeit not as bad as original. I have kicked up a fuss and they have kindly offered to either re-do them (no guarantee it won't return as they will not split the rim to fix) or replace them with 18" Turbo Look 2 wheels. I am being told by them that the value of the car with either wheel would be at least the same and that the Turbo Look 2 may actually be a better option because Porsche have stopped making the Sport Design because of the problem of corrosion, and that now an OPC will take the replacement of these wheels into account when offering a trade in valuation. I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing by accepting the Turbo wheels over the refurb. Any opinions? Thanks

Do it Mike !! Take the Turbo looks They're classic...

I recently swapped out my Sport Design split rims for a set of turbos too. I prefer the cleaner look of the 5 spokes and they look "right" with the car to me. Also they are easier to clean and dont suffer from the corrosion issue. Cheaper to refurbish if you are a little "unfortunate" too

Turbo wheels all the way! Look much better than the Sport Designs on a stock 996. I think the Sports are only suited to the GT3 (which were standard on the Mk1). ~ Maxie

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorted out the issue with the wheels. I went for a 997 with 19" Carrera S wheels instead. Crazy thing was, I would have had to fork out for warranty, Decembers Finance payment and an MOT, plus in the New Year a Major Service, so instead I used that money (plus the little equity in the 996) as my deposit and got a newer 997 instead - the difference £10 per month.
