Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello Forum Members – I wanted to pass on a big thank you and appreciation to three Planet 9 forum members for their DIY procedures for a complicated project that I had a real desire to accomplish. Thanks goes to: “KevinH2000”, “JCC7119” and “stevepaa”,. The Project: my 2008 Cayman S (11,500 miles) came with unheated, basic manual seats and manual climate control. I wanted to have heated, minimum 8-way power seats with lumbar and automatic climate control. I found a lightly used automatic climate control unit which was an easy install, plus it came with heated seats switches. Then, I located some really great seats from a seller in Philadelphia that came out of a low mileage 2008 996 Turbo. The challenge was installing power heated seats in a Cayman that had manual seats with no heat. The electrical aspect is the really complex and difficult part of this project. First and foremost, forum member Kevin H from Virginia (KevinH2000) and I have gotten to know each other over several years and some previous seat projects. Kevin is a good, fun friend. He wanted to accomplish a similar project in his Boxster and had spent a great deal of time trying to figure out the wiring and then he came upon a detailed wiring procedure invented by Joe C. from New York (JCC7119) that was nothing short of brilliant. Joes’s procedure gave us the ability to wire the seats so that they would function in all regards. It’s easy to just say those words but, to me, it’s unbelievable that he figured out and invented such a clever solution to accomplish this and then went to the trouble to document this for all of us to use. And wow! - we were successful in getting my power seats to work perfectly! However, I still needed to find a way to electrically hook-up my heated seats, but Joe’s instructions did not address that, since had no need for this. So, Kevin to the rescue - he stepped up, again! He found forum member, Steve Y. in California (stevepaa) who was installing heated seat elements into his seats and had figured out how to wire them up. I already had the heated seat elements in my new seats, but I needed his wiring instructions. His procedure and pictures were really excellent. And, when we followed his procedure, my heated seats worked too! These three forum members went to a great deal of trouble to research and document these DIYs to enable my success. I wish there was a way that I could meet and thank them in person. Using this forum is my best thank-you alternative. So, a big thanks to Kevin H. Joe C. and Steve Y.!
