Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, can you tell me, how the oil level sensor works on a 996 3,6ltr engine? I like to use this engine in another car with other instruments and like to read the oil level. There is a constant resistance of about 10ohm with or without oil, and no capacitive parts in it. It looks like a heated wire with variable resistor. Is that right? Does it get the full 12v to heat? And how long? Do not want to burn it... Never checked oil on that cars. Just a youtube with a measure time of 6sec. So just heat and look the resistance after 6sec? Thank you for your help! Oliver
