Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, i've got a 996.1 c2 mo30 with 90k miles. Put it into the garage to get H&R springs fitted as i prefer a lower loo. The garage can't get the top bolt of a front strut so have requested I order 2 fronts. My options are 1) 2 new front Bilstein b4's. 2) Full new set of Bilstein b4's 3) Full new Koni special active shocks, the red ones. I'm erring towards the changing all 4 shocks as i now think it might improve the car as they are old although no leaks. The Koni's might take a while to get so i'd need to get the car put back together again and wait. Advice much appreciated.

POST 2Original post

I am slightly confused, what bolt can't they undo?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's the bolt that holds the top mount in place so they can't remove spring

POST 4Original post

I went through this and had Koni special actives with HR lowering springs with X74 geo 3-4000 mile ago by Charlie of William Frances near stowmarket, I can say it is awesome on British roads. The only addition I will go for is the H&R anti-roll bars as I feel (but can't be certain) that the lower car would benefit from a little less roll (not that there is much at all tbh).

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That great to hear they are a good combo. Thanks for the info. I see Carnewal are the cheapest supplier or also design 911 do them at about £100 more. Where did you buy from and did it take a while to get then delivered?

POST 6Original post

The top nut on my nearside was a bit reluctant to come off so the way I dealt with it was some emery cloth in the jaws of a set of stilsons, to grab the piston of the shock absorber, as close to the top mount as possible, then a windy gun to crack the top nut off. I did it with the shock assembly off the car, no issue with access that way.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

0 They have the assembly off the car and tried heat application but no joy. Thanks for tip, I check out if they tried that.

POST 8Original post

I left it for the fitting company to get the bits so can't help there but they are common parts so shouldn't take long.
