Question for all but i'm sure Richard will have the answers. Are there any performance and handling upgrades on a facelift 996 turbo or was it all cosmetic?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Mostly cosmetic. Matt switches, glove box, and PCM2.0. I believe hollow spoke wheels became standard at some point, but other than that, the running gear is the same. They were all 420bhp except the X50 and S versions, which are 450bhp. I think pyrotechnic seat belt pre-tensioners were also introduced on the facelift.
I don't think the hollow spokes were part of the facelift. Only the very first ones had solid wheels and I'm sure I've read that that was pre facelift. What you want are sports techno ones - they're lighter still (just!) I've read all sorts about software (not pcm) upgrades, performance upgrades, torque not bhp, but noone can actually substantiate it. But prefacelifts are marginally less sort after and very slightly cheaper. Doesn't make them a worse car though.
